College Choice 101

“All my friends are going there.”
“I heard it was a pretty good school.”
“I think they have my major there.”
“I always wanted to go to _______ because they have a great football team and my Dad always took me to the games.”

Is this any way to make a major financial commitment?

This is the first major decision a young adult will make (aside from who to ask to prom, of course), and frankly, the decision making skills and criteria young minds use are not always the best. How do you help without stepping on toes? How do you advocate without alienating? How do you balance their dreams with your checkbook register?

Fulcrum empowers families to better understand the myriad choices available to tomorrow’s college students. Admissions offices may still hold the power to choose whom they “let in”, but families can now take a more proactive role as informed consumers of education and make their own choices.

The goal shouldn’t be to just to get in, it should be to succeed, excel and even mature. Fulcrum guides you through the process to go beyond an okay school or a school that offers your major (any free website or college guide can tell you that). Our goal is to match you with several great fit schools – a perfect match between the unique skills, interests and personality of a student and the specific programs, opportunities and climate of a particular college.
